Taking Down the Mighty Grizzly

When you think of a Grizzly Bear you think of Power, right? Even the mighty Grizzly can't stand up to this Canadian Gray wolf.

If you'll note in these pictures it takes just three wolves to take a Grizzly. These shots were taken in the middle of the chase with a telephoto lens. This is a fully grown bear, it only looks smaller because these wolves are huge!

We already know the fate of the bear. The wolves will dog an animal day and night, chasing it by changing shifts. The howling is their location beacon so the next shift can come in to take over and continue the chase. They literally run the poor animal into the ground and once it can run no further the pack closes in. Sadly all the wolves need is for the animal to remain still as they eat. They often don't even kill the prey, just start eating the animal alive.

Once the chase begins the only end is the death of the victim. This photographer was smart enough not to follow the chase. Not a wise idea to get involved with wolves when they are in the middle of a kill.
